veal stew

...that was our lunch today, Wijjie bought a hock of veal (part nearest the foot) and stewed it with carrots, red peppers leaks and potatoes. We all ate a lot, including August who is only 3! The little sticks on the potatoes are fresh rosemary.

this cut in French is called "jarret de veau", it costs about 11 euros per kilo. very tender and makes a deliciously slimy sauce.

Wijjie is teaching herself French cooking, by eating out at friends' houses and in local bistrots. Basically, she looks, tastes and then goes home and does it herself. Click on the photo to see it in close-up - makes me want to heat up the little bit that was left over and eat some more...

Just had a phone call from Sweden from a couple who want to stay in one of my holiday houses in Montefrio, next month. I assured them there is a nice fireplace and some electric heaters too, just in case the sun of Andalucia isn't doing its job!

August Hassan, my son

This son of mine is very cheeky and has a fat face!
He is starting to speak four languages all at once so it's a bit of a mess.
